MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah extends its congratulations to Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) on its 102nd anniversary, recognizing its contributions to achieving Indonesia’s independence and building the nation.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir praised NU role in maintaining Indonesia’s unity and diversity, emphasizing its dedication to strengthening the nation.
“NU has played a key role in preserving Indonesia’s unity despite challenges, ensuring that our country remains strong and diverse,” Haedar said in Jakarta on Friday, January 31.
He highlighted NU commitment to promoting religious tolerance and harmony through its teachings of Ahlussunah wal Jama’ah (Aswaja), which have helped Indonesians live peacefully in a multicultural society.
“NU has also preserved local traditions and culture so that this organization becomes an integral part of Indonesian society,” said Haedar.
Haedar acknowledged NU impact on education and national development, particularly through its Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), which have nurtured generations of patriotic and socially responsible individuals. He also emphasized NU efforts in strengthening unity among Muslims, Indonesians, and humanity as a whole.
Haedar viewed that NU contributions align with this year’s anniversary theme, “Working Together with the People for Indonesia’s Welfare.”
“May NU continue to spread Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin (a mercy to the whole world) in Indonesia and beyond,” said Haedar.
