MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has demonstrated its commitment to education by providing the Sang Surya Scholarships.
Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Agung Danarto emphasized that the Sang Surya Scholarships are a tangible dedication of Muhammadiyah to Islamic teachings. He highlighted the Quranic imperative to seek knowledge, noting that this commandment extends beyond religious texts to encompass all forms of learning.
“We are commanded to read, to seek knowledge in all its forms. This includes not only studying the Quran but also exploring any field of knowledge. However, it is crucial to remember that all knowledge should be sought for the sake of Allah and applied to serve humanity,” said Agung Danarto in the scholarship award ceremony at the Muhammadiyah office of Jakarta on Friday, September 20.
Agung highlighted Muhammadiyah long-standing commitment to education, even during the colonial era when access to education was restricted.
“When the Dutch colonial government limited educational opportunities to a privileged few, Muhammadiyah provided a wide range of access to education for all Indonesians regardless of their background,” said Agung.
The Sang Surya Scholarships are a collaborative effort between the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management (Lazismu) and the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources.
