MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, GAZA – The humanitarian crisis in Palestine a critical issue. Despite a United Nations Security Council resolution passed in late 2023, the situation for Palestinians does not show sign of improvement. Basic necessities are scarce, and delivering aid to those in need can be challenging.
In response to this ongoing crisis, the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management (Lazismu) and Muhammadiyah Aid have been steadfast in their efforts to provide relief.
During Ramadan, Lazismu ensured Palestinians had essential supplies by distributing food aid. Their support extended beyond food, with medical equipment being sent to bolster healthcare providers. Early in 2024, Lazismu partnered with the Palestine Hospital in Egypt and the Palestine Red Crescent Society to deliver essential medical equipment, including automatic external defibrillators and a diathermy unit.
Lazismu’s commitment continued with a clean water distribution program on June 8 and 9, 2024, in collaboration with their Palestinian partner, Gazze Destek Derngi (GDD). Yaseen Assayyid, the GDD Project Manager, reported that over 159,000 liters of clean water were distributed across Gaza (70,000 liters), Deir al-Balah (50,000 liters), and Khan Yunis (39,000 liters), benefiting an estimated 3,975 families. The clean water was also distributed to Gaza June 10 and 11.
“20 water tanks were deployed to ensure effective delivery,” Yaseen explained.
Ardi Luthfi Kautsar, Program Director of Lazismu, expressed gratitude to donors and highlighted the program’s success. He emphasized Lazismu’s dedication to managing humanitarian aid funds effectively.
“Through this clean water assistance program, we hope to sustain the spirit of our brothers and sisters in Palestine,” Ardi added.
Looking ahead, Lazismu plans to continue these vital initiatives alongside long-term peace and rehabilitation programs once the conflict subsides.
“In the near future, Lazismu will also distribute sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha to the people of Palestine,” Ardi mentioned.
