MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JORDAN – The joy of Eid al-Adha was also felt by the Palestinian people in the camps in Jordan. These refugees live in dire conditions to avoid the humanitarian conflict in their home country.
One such refugee camp is located in Jerash, a Jordanian city with a population of about 40,000. The camp is home to a large number of Palestinian residents.
To help celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Special Branch of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) of Jordan distributed sacrificial meat to the Palestinian refugees. PCIM of Jordan volunteers visited the animal slaughterhouse in the Baq’ah area to prepare the meat for distribution. The theme of PCIM Jordan’s Eid al-Adha sacrifice program was “Your Sacrifice Brings Smiles to Palestinian Refugees.”
Additionally, Muhammadiyah also provided aid to the Palestinian refugees. They distributed 100 packages of essential food items and everyday necessities to the refugees in the Widhat camp, located in Amman, Jordan’s capital city.
This food package distribution program is part of Lazismu’s annual Qurbanmu program, which aims to help those in need during Eid al-Adha. This year’s program was held on Thursday, June 20th, with the theme “Smile for Palestinian Refugees.”
The Palestinian refugee camp in Widhat is located about 40 kilometers from the PCIM Jordan secretariat office. To provide more personal attention to the refugees and see firsthand the difficult conditions they are living in, the aid distribution was carried out door-to-door.
Rafli Hamka, a representative of the Lazismu volunteers, expressed his gratitude to Lazismu for entrusting PCIM of Jordan with the distribution of the aid. “May Muhammadiyah always be a beacon of light for the world,” he said.
The Palestinian refugees were overjoyed to receive the assistance. One refugee, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed his appreciation for Muhammadiyah’s ongoing support. “This is the first time I have received help from Muhammadiyah,” he said. “May Muhammadiyah continue to be a steadfast supporter of refugees wherever they are.”
Jordan, as a neighboring country to Palestine, opened its borders to refugees fleeing the conflict. Tens of thousands of Palestinians now live in refugee camps scattered throughout Jordan. Some of these refugees have permission from the Jordanian authorities, while others fled without proper documentation to escape the violence.
