MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SLEMAN – Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Religious Preaching Fathurrahman Kamal encouraged Muhammadiyah preachers and members to emulate Prophet Muhammad.
Fathurrahman emphasized that preaching should not create division or highlight differences, but instead build harmony and understanding.
“Wisdom in preaching includes being tolerant, respectful, and open to constructive dialogue. Preaching should guide and invite people, not divide them,” said Fathurrahman in the gathering in Depok, Caturtunggal, Sleman on May 5.
Fathurrahaman highlighted that Muhammadiyah approach to preaching should reflect gentleness, humanity, and enjoyment so that people from various backgrounds can receive the message of Islam well.
Muhammadiyah has shown how this approach can be applied in real life, particularly through the establishment of its institutions. These efforts, Fathurrahman said, are about not only spiritual growth but also people’s life improvement.
Fathurrahman stressed that Muhammadiyah preaching addresses both religious and social needs, helping communities become more spiritually aware and economically empowered.
At the heart of Islamic teachings, he explained, is the principle of justice and balance, what is known as wasathiyah or moderation. For that reason, Muhammadiyah work goes beyond the Muslim community and benefits society as a whole.
“Islam teaches that everyone has equal worth in the sight of Allah, no matter their religion, ethnicity, or social background,” said Fathurrahman.
Fathurrahman added that Prophet Muhammad showed great tolerance, even in times of conflict, and this should be the foundation for building a peaceful and respectful society.
“Islam teaches us not to go to extremes in treating the environment and having social interactions. A balanced and thoughtful attitude is key,” said Fathurrahman.
