MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KUNINGAN – Muhammadiyah has expanded its global presence to 30 countries, according to Abdul Mu’ti, the General Secretary of Muhammadiyah.
In Indonesia, Muhammadiyah is present in 35 provinces. However, in three new provinces, Muhammadiyah has not yet established a regional board (PWM), but the local boards (PDM) are already in place.
“Hopefully in the near future, these three provinces will also have PWMs,” Mu’ti said on January 22 during a tabligh akbar (Islamic preaching event) held by the PDM of Kuningan at the Syiarul Islam Mosque.
At the global level, Muhammadiyah is present in five continents, with the exception of Antarctica. In four countries, Muhammadiyah has been granted legal status by the local governments.
“The first is Muhammadiyah Australia, followed by Muhammadiyah USA, Muhammadiyah Germany, and Muhammadiyah Japan. All of them have legal status in their respective countries,” Mu’ti said.
In addition to its structural presence, Muhammadiyah is also active in the form of Muhammadiyah-owned institutions (AUM) abroad. These include the Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), TK ABA in Malaysia and Egypt, and the Muhammadiyah Australia College.
In Indonesia, Muhammadiyah continues to grow, with 173 Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah universities, 123 Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah hospitals, 5,354 schools, and thousands of other institutions.
Mu’ti explained that large institutions are not only established at the regional or provincial level, but also at the level of the Muhammadiyah branch (PCM). He cited the examples of the Universitas Muhammadiyah Pekajangan Pekalongan (UMPP), the Muhammadiyah Hospital of Babat in Lamongan, and the Universitas Muhammadiyah Gombong (Unimugo) in the PCIM of Gombong.
Mu’ti’s remarks reflect Muhammadiyah’s commitment to spreading the message of Islam and serving the community around the world. The organization’s growing global presence is a testament to its resilience and relevance in the 21st century.
