MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, AUSTRALIA – Muhammadiyah strengthens its global presence with the recent organization of a Baitul Arqam training program in Canberra, Australia. The three-day event, held from December 27-31, 2024, brought together over 50 Muhammadiyah members from various parts of Australia.
The choice of Australia as the venue for this significant event is strategic. With its multicultural society and progressive values, Australia provides a unique environment for the implementation of Islam as a universal religion of peace and compassion.
The President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir delivered a virtual address emphasizing the importance of ihsan, a concept that encompasses a deep sense of consciousness and sincerity in one’s relationship with Allah, others, and oneself. Haedar stressed the need for Muhammadiyah members in Australia to adopt a multi-perspective approach to understanding and engaging with the diverse Australian society.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Education Attaché in Australia Professor Najib highlighted the significance of Muhammadiyah contributions in shaping a positive image of Islam and Indonesia in Australia. He emphasized that Muhammadiyah presence in Australia goes beyond mere existence; it aims to provide tangible benefits to the local community.
The Baitul Arqam program provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of Muhammadiyah’s teachings and equipped them with the skills necessary to promote Islam in a multicultural setting. Trainers from the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources, Faiz Rafdhi and Erik Tauvani Somae, conducted sessions on various topics, ensuring that participants were well-prepared to take on leadership roles within the organization.
The event demonstrates Muhammadiyah ability to adapt and thrive in a globalized world. By fostering a new generation of leaders who are both grounded in Islamic principles and sensitive to the cultural nuances of Australian society, Muhammadiyah is making significant strides in promoting a progressive and inclusive form of Islam.
While the challenges ahead are formidable, the participants of the Baitul Arqam program are well-equipped to face them. With a deep understanding of their faith and a commitment to serving their communities, these individuals are poised to become influential voices for Islam in Australia.
Besides, there was also the inauguration of the Muhammadiah and Aisyiyah Special Subbranch of New South Wales (NSW) 2024+2026. This marked a significant step towards strengthening the organizational structure of Muhammadiyah in Australia.
