Muhammadiyah Explores Strategic Education Partnerships with the Malaysian Ministry of Education

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – The Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Irwan Akib and the Rector of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) visited the Malaysian Ministry of Education to explore opportunities for strategic cooperation in the field of education. The visit became a significant step in strengthening educational relations between the two countries.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Education headquarters, focused on several key areas of cooperation, including inter-university collaborations, the promotion of moderate Islamic education, and the adoption of innovative technologies in education. Both sides discussed the potential for joint research projects, student and faculty exchanges, and the development of shared educational programs.

“This visit is not only about discussing potential educational collaborations but also about strengthening the historical and cultural relations between Malaysia and Indonesia. Muhammadiyah is committed to providing education that not only enlightens but also builds civilization. We believe that this collaboration will bring significant benefits to future generations,” said Irwan Akib.

The Rector of UMAM Saidul Amin also emphasized the university’s commitment to becoming a center of excellence in Islamic education.

“UMAM vision is to be a leading Islamic educational institution that can meet the demands of the times and become a gateway for progressive and enlightening Islamic thought,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Zamry Abdul Kadir warmly welcomed the Muhammadiyah delegation. He expressed his commitment to supporting UMAM, the first Muhammadiyah university established outside Indonesia.

The visit is expected to enhance UMAM position as a leading Islamic university in Southeast Asia and demonstrate Muhammadiyah ongoing commitment to advancing global education. By fostering collaboration between Indonesia and Malaysia in the field of education, both countries aim to develop a highly skilled, character-driven workforce grounded in Islamic values.
