MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — Muhammadiyah has allocated a substantial fund of 3.5 billion rupiahs for scholarships, demonstrating its commitment to education and human development. The scholarship program, administered by the Muhammadiyah Charity Management (Lazismu) and the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources (MPKSDI), benefits 400 students in Indonesia and overseas.
The CEO of Lazismu Ibnu Tsani emphasized that this program is part of Lazismu’s long-standing educational pillar.
“The scholarship program represents Lazismu commitment to its educational pillar, which includes a range of scholarship initiatives,” said Tsani during the Orientation and Mentoring for Muhammadiyah Scholarship Awardees 2024 on Saturday, September 14.
Tsani highlighted that the spirit of providing scholarships has existed since the early days of Muhammadiyah. He cited the establishment of “Fonds-Dachlan” in 1923, which aimed to raise funds for scholarships for indigenous children to pursue higher education, particularly in Islamic countries.
“Fonds-Dachlan is the foundation of Muhammadiyah commitment to accelerating human resource development. This program has been providing scholarships for overseas studies since its establishment,” added Tsani.
Tsani emphasized that Muhammadiyah has always had a forward-thinking vision to become a transnational movement focusing on improving human resources.
“Cadres are about the quality of human resources. In the past 20 years, we have seen developed countries such as Korea and Japan overcome the middle-income trap through improving their human resources. A superior quality of human resources drives quality research and brings progress to the nation,” he explained.
Tsani expressed hope that the scholarship program would have a positive impact, not only on the awardees but also on the future of Muhammadiyah.
“After accomplishing their studies, I hope they will return to Muhammadiyah. I wish them all the best in their studies,” said Tsani.
