MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Director of the Muhammadiyah Institute of the Philippines, Basir Jarah Anilon, visited four Muhammadiyah institutions in Yogyakarta on Sunday, July 6.
His visits included the Pendidikan Ulama Tarjih Muhammadiyah (PUTM), Madrasah Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah, Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah, and the Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Yogyakarta. The visits were aimed at learning from Muhammadiyah’s educational system and exploring opportunities for collaboration between institutions in Indonesia and the Philippines.
“I’m very grateful for the warm welcome. It gives us great encouragement to continue growing Muhammadiyah in the Philippines,” said Basir.
Basir expressed particular admiration for the Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Yogyakarta, which was established based on the principle of “zero rupiah, zero land”—an initiative that started without capital or land but grew through collective effort and dedication. Basir said this story is an inspiring model for faith-based education development back home.
“There are many students in the Philippines who are eager to study in Indonesia and learn more about Muhammadiyah. We hope there will be scholarship opportunities to support this in the future,” added Basir.
