MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALANG – Muhammadiyah launched its new retail business, Mentarimart, during the Muhammadiyah National Economic Coordination Meeting at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Wednesday, February 26. This initiative is part of Muhammadiyah strategy to strengthen its economic foundation and promote financial independence through modern retail.
Mentarimart is owned and managed by the Central Board of Muhammadiyah in partnership with PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya Tbk, the company behind the Alfamart brand. Under this collaboration, Alfamart will provide system management, operational support, and product supplies, while Muhammadiyah will independently run the business based on Islamic economic principles and community empowerment.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized the need for economic progress among Muhammadiyah members and Muslims. He stressed that while Muhammadiyah is guided by Islamic teachings, its business vision must align with these values.
“If we want to grow and succeed, we cannot do it alone. We need to collaborate. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates have become highly developed because they effectively manage their national resources and build strong partnerships,” said Haedar.
The launch of Mentarimart is part of Muhammadiyah broader vision for sustainable economic independence. Haedar highlighted that this initiative is more than just a retail business. It represents Muhammadiyah commitment to fostering an economy based on cooperation, inclusivity, and community empowerment.
“Mentarimart is not just a business. It is a reflection of Muhammadiyah dedication to building an economy that supports and uplifts the community,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Economy, Business, and Tourism Arif Budimanta explained that Mentarimart’s business model would expand across different regions through a partnership system involving Muhammadiyah members.
“We hope Mentarimart can become a solution for Muhammadiyah members and the wider community by providing daily necessities at competitive prices while also creating jobs and strengthening Muhammadiyah internal business network,” said Arif.
The launch of Mentarimart marks a new step in Muhammadiyah economic empowerment efforts, supporting its long-standing social, educational, and healthcare initiatives.
With its community-based model, Mentarimart is expected to grow nationwide, creating new business opportunities and strengthening the economic resilience of Muslims.
Muhammadiyah plans to expand Mentarimart’s reach by partnering with more stakeholders while ensuring the business operates with fairness, sustainability, and community well-being in mind.
The 2025 Muhammadiyah National Economic Coordination Meeting serves as an important platform for shaping strategies toward a stronger and more self-sufficient Muhammadiyah economy.
