MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Muhammadiyah Museum, established by the Central Board, preserves and presents the history of Muhammadiyah as a collective memory for Indonesian Muslims.
“The Muhammadiyah Museum is not merely an exhibition space. It becomes a platform for research, education, and tourism,” said the Head of the Muhammadiyah Museum Affan Kurniawan during the Museum Muhammadiyah Talk on Thursday, September 19.
Founded on November 14, 2022, the museum has been committed to being a resourceful medium for the public, including Muhammadiyah members. The museum has attracted visitors around the world, such as the Netherlands, Korea, China, the Middle East, and Australia.
“Muhammadiyah has always supported progressive education, particularly in Yogyakarta, which also becomes an educational tourism hub to enhance the city’s historical, educational, and national values,” added Affan.
Reflecting on the museum’s journey since its establishment, he emphasized the importance of creating a dialogue involving various stakeholders to continually reflect on the museum’s mission and purpose.
Meanwhile, a museum enthusiast Ria Putri Palupilati emphasized that the Muhammadiyah Museum not only preserves ancient artifacts but also conveys deeper values to all levels of society.
“Muhammadiyah draws inspiration from its historical legacy as a medium for learning, as the Muhammadiyah struggles continue to benefit the public today,” said Ria.
Ria hopes that each floor of the museum can stimulate all five senses, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the experience.
“When we can engage with various media through our senses, we can truly understand the spirit of Muhammadiyah figures and apply it to our daily lives,” said Ria.
