MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PARIS – The Secretary-General of Muhammadiyah participated in the international meeting Imaginer la Paix – Imagine Peace in Paris, on September 22-24, 2024. The meeting was promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio together with the Archdiocese of Paris.
A highlight of the meeting was a closed-door session where participants had the opportunity to engage in a three-hour discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron. The session covered a wide range of global issues, offering insights into the political stance of France on key international conflicts.
During the meeting, President Macron shared political views of France on several pressing issues, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Gaza conflict, and the political situation in Congo.
In a relaxed setting, President Macron also sought the religious leaders’ perspectives on tackling challenges related to religious, cultural, and ethnic diversity.
In response, Abdul Mu’ti took the opportunity to explain the experiences of Indonesia in managing diversity, particularly in terms of language, ethnicity, and religion. Mu’ti emphasized the country’s success in fostering harmony amid differences, highlighting the country’s unique approach to pluralism.
“President Macron and the other religious leaders were greatly impressed by the inter-religious harmony model of Indonesia, especially after Pope Francis’ recent visit and Holy Mass in Jakarta,” said Mu’ti on Monday, September 23.
