MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — Muhammadiyah, through Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FPT University, Vietnam, marking the start of a strategic partnership focused on developing technology in the education sector. The signing took place at the Muhammadiyah Office, Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, July 10.
The MoU signing was also attended by President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and the MInister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy.
Rachmat welcomed the collaboration, saying it was the right step given how quickly technology and information are evolving today.
Rachmat believed that it was a strategic collaboration since information technology is evolving rapidly.
“Let’s make history together. Vietnam and Indonesia have shared strong relations since Indonesia achieved its independence .Let’s work together. I believe we can stand alongside global companies such as NVIDIA and Tesla,” said Rachmat.
Rachmat highlighted the strengths of both countries, namely human resources, natural resources, and social capital. These become foundations for long-term development.
“I believe we can build a strong partnership. It won’t be easy, but it’s better to face the challenges now than later,” he added.
Meanwhile, UMY Rector Achmad Nurmandi said the agreement followed a series of discussions, with both universities agreeing to focus on developing fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductors.
“Today, we’re signing an MoU between UMY, FPT Group, and FPT University. We’ve had long talks about working together in technology sectors such as AI and semiconductors,” said Nurmandi.
Nurmandi also hoped the partnership would go beyond education and include opportunities in business and industry.
“We don’t want this to be limited to education. We’re also hoping to work together in business and industry. That’s why we’re looking forward to further discussions in those areas,” he added.
FPT Corporation: Vietnam’s Leading Tech Company
CEO of FPT Corporation, Nguyen Van Khoa, shared the company’s involvement in Indonesia. He noted that FPT has had a presence in Jakarta for two years and is committed to developing technology and global partnerships.
“Our company has been in Jakarta for two years. As we move into the era of AI and semiconductors, FPT is ready to work with Muhammadiyah to bring change and innovation,” he said.
Nguyen emphasized the need to connect education and technology in order to prepare the next generation.
“I hope this partnership brings success for both of us and creates value for Indonesia. Technology is crucial to the world’s development, and we should bring it into education. I believe we can grow together,” said Nguyen.
