MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al-Shun, voiced his strong support for the launch of the Unified Global Hijri Calendar (UGHC), calling it a crucial step for strengthening unity among Muslims worldwide.
Speaking at the launch event hosted by Universitas ‘Aisyiyah (Unisa) Yogyakarta on Wednesday, June 25, Ambassador Al-Shun emphasized the importance of unifying the Islamic calendar to broaden the shared vision of Muslims globally.
“The idea of unifying the Islamic calendar is very important. It opens the minds and horizons of the entire Muslim community,” said Zuhair.
Zuhair expressed admiration for Indonesia, praising its large Muslim population and strong Islamic values.
“We respect the Indonesian government and people who have worked sincerely and consistently to advance Islam and Muslims,” added Zuhair.
Representing the people and leadership of Palestine, Zuhair said he was honored to attend the launch. Amid the ongoing suffering of Palestinians due to Israeli occupation and violence, he hoped that such Islamic initiatives would bring a sense of pride and peace.
“We hope this significant Islamic gathering brings pride to the Palestinian people and helps pave the way for peace and security,” said Zuhair.
Ambassador Zuhair Al-Shun also congratulated Indonesia, particularly Muhammadiyah, for leading this important effort to unify the Islamic calendar.
