MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch of Greater Germany (PCIM Germany) Diyah Nahdiyati visited the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Yogyakarta on Thursday, July 24.
Diyah was received by Muhammadiyah Secretary Muhammad Sayuti, along with Fauzan Anwar Sandiah, Head of Programs and Cooperation at the office.
During the meeting, Diyah shared updates on the progress of PCIM Germany, which has been officially registered as a legal organization since August 2021.
“With legal status, our outreach, programs, and role in Germany can now grow significantly,” said Diyah.
Diyah also highlighted various strategic initiatives the organization has undertaken since gaining legal recognition. One of them was a marine ecosystem training program conducted in 2022.
“In 2022, we joined a diaspora project competition supported by the German government through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). We were fortunate to win the best project, and we partnered with PRIM Sudirman to deliver marine ecosystem training for Hizbul Wathan (HW) members,” explained Diyah.
Diyah then shared one of Germany’s current priorities, addressing labor shortages across sectors. She believed that it presents an opportunity for both Muhammadiyah and Indonesians in general.
“Germany is opening up to workers from developing countries, including Indonesia. This is why we aspire to establish a Muhammadiyah Center to support people who are interested in working in Germany.”
Diyah hoped the idea would receive support from Muhammadiyah leaders in both central board and regional boards. Beyond job opportunities, she emphasized that the initiative is also part of expanding Muhammadiyah mission in Europe.
“Whether or not the project is successful, our goal is to make Muhammadiyah and Indonesia more recognized through their contributions and affiliated organizations. We also hope to strengthen the voice of progressive Islam in Europe, especially in Germany,” said Diyah.
