PCIM Spain’s New Chapter: Advocating Peace and Inclusivity in Global Diplomacy

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SPAIN – The Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) of Spain officially commenced its new chapter under the leadership of Yordan Gunawan in a ceremony held at the Muhammadiyah Study Center Madrid on Sunday, December 17, 2023. The event drew prominent figures, including Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Muhammad Najib, highlighting the organization’s growing global influence and commitment to promoting peace and inclusivity.

Ambassador lauded the inauguration, emphasizing the pivotal role Muhammadiyah, through PCIM of Spain, can play in shaping a more peaceful and inclusive global landscape. He acknowledged the evolving geopolitical dynamics, transitioning from a bipolar world dominated by the US and Russia to a current unipolar system under American leadership. However, he cautioned against overlooking the rise of new players like China, potentially reshaping the global power equation.

“Drawing upon Muhammadiyah’s extensive national experience, particularly the invaluable contributions of its educational institutions, Indonesian youths can capitalize on this transformative moment,” remarked Ambassador. He further praised Muhammadiyah’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity, deeming it a critical example and source of inspiration for the international community grappling with complex societal challenges.

While emphasizing the significance of Muhammadiyah’s international engagements, the Ambassador underscored the organization’s unwavering dedication to its domestic mission. He advocated for the global dissemination of Muhammadiyah’s best practices, maximizing its positive impact on the world stage.

He emphasized the importance of continuously enriching their knowledge and perspectives through intellectual pursuits and intercultural engagement.

Newly appointed PCIM Spain Chairman Yordan Gunawan expressed his profound gratitude to the Central Board of Muhammadiyah and the Indonesian Embassy in Spain for their unwavering support. He envisioned PCIM of Spain, alongside other international branches, as beacons of hope and inclusivity for the global community. Yordan stressed the importance of fostering strong internal and external partnerships to amplify Muhammadiyah’s message on a global scale.

Plans pf PCIM of Spain for the immediate future include a leadership training program specifically designed for members and Muhammadiyah affiliates residing in Europe and the Mediterranean region. The branch also boasts ongoing academic studies, further emphasizing its commitment to intellectual scholarship and impactful dialogue.

The inauguration of new leadership marks a significant milestone for the organization and underscores its burgeoning influence in international development. By embracing its core values of peace, inclusivity, and intellectual engagement, PCIM of Spain is poised to contribute meaningfully to shaping a more equitable and harmonious world.
