MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KUPANG – President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto officially opened the Tanwir National Meeting and the 112 Anniversary Reception of Muhammadiyah at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. In his speech, Prabowo praised Muhammadiyah significant contributions to Indonesia’s development.
Prabowo acknowledged the many Muhammadiyah members who now hold important positions in the government and national institutions, both in ministries and other agencies.
“Many key figures had strong relations with Muhammadiyah. This shows how Muhammadiyah has succeeded in producing capable leaders who contribute to the nation’s progress,” said Prabowo.
He also highlighted major historical figures like Soekarno, Fatmawati, Mohammad Hatta, and Soeharto, all of whom were closely connected with Muhammadiyah. Prabowo emphasized that Muhammadiyah’s impact goes beyond education and extends to shaping the character and leadership of the nation.
Prabowo also mentioned General Soedirman, a national hero and a Muhammadiyah member.
“General Soedirman, despite never attending formal military schools, led the struggle for Indonesia’s independence and won. This indicates the importance of the education and values instilled by Muhammadiyah,” he said. Prabowo further explained that Sudirman, who was once a Muhammadiyah high school teacher in Purwokerto, is an example of how Muhammadiyah education shapes extraordinary leaders.
Prabowo expressed his gratitude for being invited to the event, saying that it was not the Muhammadiyah leaders who should thank him, but rather he felt honored to be able to speak to important figures, teachers, scholars, and Muhammadiyah members.
“It is important for me to thank those who educate the nation and society,” said Prabowo.
In addition, Prabowo called on all Indonesians to learn from history and unite in building a better and more advanced nation.
“Let’s be thankful for the peace we have and continue to work together to preserve our nation’s unity,” said Prabowo.
The President also mentioned the growing challenges in the world today and stressed the need for vigilance to maintain national stability.
Concluding his speech, Prabowo emphasized that true prosperity for all Indonesians can only be achieved through justice and equality. He expressed hope that Muhammadiyah would continue to play a key role in achieving the goal of “Bringing Prosperity for All.”
“Prosperity can only be realized if we work together to eliminate poverty and stunting,” said Prabowo.
