MUHAMMADIYAH. OR. ID, SURAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir addressed the organization’s vast potential for continued progress. Speaking at a Ramadan preaching held by the Muhammadiyah Universitas Surakarta (UMS) on April 1, Haedar traced this potential back to the visionary leadership of the organization’s founder, Ahmad Dahlan.
“The advancements championed by Dahlan instilled in Muhammadiyah a rich tradition of structured thinking,” Haedar said on April 1. This emphasis on systematic thought, he argued, is the foundation upon which the organization’s future advancements can be built.
Haedar outlined three key areas where Muhammadiyah’s leadership can ensure continued progress. The first agenda focuses on internalizing Islamic and Muhammadiyah values throughout the organization’s systems and structures. The second agenda emphasizes cultivating these values within the hearts and minds of Muhammadiyah’s members. Finally, Haedar stressed the importance of institutionalizing these values, ensuring they become ingrained within the organization’s very framework.
The growing influence of social media, Haedar argued, underscores the urgency of these agendas. “Muhammadiyah leaders and members at all levels have a responsibility to actively spread our values,” he declared. This outreach, he explained, should encompass both traditional offline activities and a robust online presence.
Haedar also called upon Muhammadiyah’s various councils, institutions, and businesses to embrace innovation. “Social media shouldn’t simply be a marketplace where we passively consume information,” he said. Instead, he urged these entities to develop fresh ideas and perspectives that remain relevant in today’s ever-changing world.
By actively implementing these three agendas and harnessing the power of social media, Haedar expressed his confidence that Muhammadiyah will continue to progress and make a positive impact on society for generations to come.
