MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Inspired by the concept of “Happy Eggs” in Switzerland, the Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment (MPM) has introduced a high-quality functional egg product called “TelurMOE”. In Switzerland, the happier the hen, the higher the value of its eggs.
The Chairperson of MPM M. Nurul Yamin mentioned that the “TelurMOE” initiative not only focuses on the “happy egg” concept but also prioritizes the empowerment of the marginalized, especially people with disabilities. The MPM is directly involved in supporting these individuals in participating in the functional egg farming program.
Yamin emphasized that the initiative places a strong emphasis on animal welfare, ensuring that the hens are raised in healthy and comfortable conditions. This, in turn, results in healthier and higher-quality eggs.
“These eggs are produced by hens raised in a healthy and unique environment. Therefore, these eggs undoubtedly have high nutrients and market value, making them appealing to consumers,” said Yamin.
To support the well-being of the hens and facilitate the work of people with disabilities, the chicken coops have been specially designed.
“We have designed the chicken coops specifically to ensure the happiness of the hens and to make it easier for people with disabilities to carry out their farming activities,” said Yamin.
The “TelurMOE” initiative, which began in 2023, has already had three significant impacts. First, it has boosted the self-confidence of people with disabilities by providing them with economic opportunities. Second, it has fostered the development of economic institutions to manage, collect, and market the eggs. Third, it has increased the income of the participating entrepreneurs.
The success of Telurmoe has attracted interest from various parties, creating opportunities for the MPM to expand its partnerships and continue developing the functional egg business managed by people with disabilities.
