MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The 7.8 magnitude earthquake striking Turkiye on February 6, 2023 claimed around 50,000 lives. As an emergency response, the Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team departed with the Indonesian government to assist survivors.
Muhammadiyah donated an emergency hospital worth 2.5 billion rupiahs to the Turkish government and its people.
Head of Lazismu of Turkiye Ahmad Diyahul Haq mentioned that Turkish people thanked Muhammadiyah for the humanitarian actions. Indeed, before the humanitarian mission ended, they served tea to Muhammadiyah volunteers.
“The survivors gave our interpreters a ‘farewell’ bracelet before we left. It was a touching moment,” said Ahmad at the DiasporaMu program on the YouTube channel of TvMu, on Wednesday (9/5).
Besides, Muhammadiyah members based in Turkiye became volunteers to distribute logistic supplies and humanitarian aid, as interpreters, and as medical and psychosocial counselors.
The Lazismu of Turkiye donated 400 million rupiahs. Meanwhile, 704 packages of food and hygiene kits were distributed to 1,012 people.
Muhammadiyah of Turkiye also planned several follow-up programs as the provision of container mosques, Ramadan gifts, and clean water.
Regarding the Muhammadiyah emergency field hospital, Ahmad said the survivors were glad since they could come there out of business hours.
“We remained to serve the survivors at the hospital out of business ours. We also accompanied Indonesian teams to give medical services till late night,” said Ahmad.
