MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Yevheniia Shynkarenko, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Ukrainian Embassy in Jakarta, visited the Muhammadiyah headquarters on Wednesday, July 23. She was welcomed by Muhammadiyah Chairperson of International Relations and Cooperation, Syafiq Mughni.
The visit focused on the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Syafiq said the Ukrainian Embassy chose Muhammadiyah as the first religious organization to engage with, showing strong potential for collaboration. He emphasized that the discussions were centered on humanitarian support, not political matters.
“This is not about politics or taking sides in the conflict. This is a humanitarian issue that deeply touches our hearts, including those of Muhammadiyah members.”
Key areas of concern raised during the meeting included the education and health of Ukrainian children, especially those needing physical and mental rehabilitation. Syafiq added that Muhammadiyah is also paying attention to the situation of the Crimean Tatar Muslim community.
Muhammadiyah plans to discuss the proposed cooperation internally, involving its various councils and institutions that may be able to contribute.
Shynkarenko expressed her deep concern for children affected by the war. She noted that many hospitals and schools in Ukraine have been destroyed, and urgent help is needed.
“At this moment, we truly need support and assistance from many countries. We hope Indonesia can be one of Ukraine’s partners, especially among nations in Asia.”
