MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Lazismu, the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management, has partnered with the Muhammadiyah Council for Public Health (MPKU) and USAID to establish a transit home for pregnant women in need. This transit home is specifically designed to support pregnant women from underprivileged families or those facing high-risk pregnancies.
The Transit Home for Pregnant Women and Healthy Babies is located strategically close to a health facility at Jalan Nusa Indah VI No. 47A RT 010/RW 003 Malaka Jaya, East Jakarta.
This easy access to healthcare was a key consideration when choosing the location. Specifically, the transit home is near both RSI Jakarta Pondok Kopi, a large hospital, and the nearest health center. This proximity allows medical personnel to easily monitor the pregnant women throughout their pregnancy, ensuring they receive the care they need.
In a press release on (May 21), the Program Officer of Mentari TB Maternal and Child Health of the MPKU, Muhammad Iqbal, explained the purpose of the Transit Home. It was intended to provide a comfortable and convenient place for pregnant women who live far away from hospitals or clinics. This eliminates the need for them to make long and potentially difficult trips back and forth for appointments or in case of an emergency.
“Instead of having to travel long distances to the hospital for check-ups or delivery, we have prepared a temporary place for them to stay while waiting for the birth,” Iqbal said. “Later, they can be directed to the most appropriate health facility, likely RSI Jakarta Pondok Kopi because it’s the closest one.”
The Transit Home offers a comfortable and supportive environment with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. It also features a kitchen where residents can prepare meals or snacks. Meals can also be supplied directly from RSI Jakarta Pondok Kopi to ensure proper nutrition for the pregnant women.
The Transit Home goes beyond just providing a place to stay. To ensure the emotional and mental well-being of the pregnant women, companions from local ‘Aisyiyah members are also provided. These companions can offer support, listen to concerns, and help the women feel comfortable during their stay. Importantly, the companions are also directly connected to RSI Jakarta Pondok Kopi so they can quickly get help if needed.
“The hospital will also prepare an ambulance if there’s an emergency,” Iqbal explained. “This ensures that pregnant women can receive first aid immediately.”
Pregnant women interested in utilizing this Transit Home can contact Muhammad Iqbal at +62 811848061. It is important to note that the Transit Home is not only for women who live far away. Pregnant women who receive recommendations from the Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Jakarta Timur Regional Leaders can also enjoy these facilities, but only after receiving referrals from hospitals or health centers. This ensures that the women who need the Transit House most are able to access it.
