MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Dr. Haiyun Ma, a scholar from Frostburg State University in the United States and Head of the Zheng He International Peace Forum (ZIPF), visited the Muhammadiyah headquarter, Jakarta, on Friday, June 2. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to foster collaboration and plan the upcoming Zheng He Forum, which brings together scholars to discuss global Muslim issues.
“We conducted international conferences in Malaysia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Dubai, and Surabaya in 2019. I hope Muhammadiyah can play a role in this forum which focuses on issues of Muslims and Islam, especially issues such as social development, cultural exchange, and global challenges,” said Haiyun Ma.
Haiyun Ma noted that the forum is designed to be a space for academic exchange and joint solutions to issues affecting Muslim communities around the world. The discussion also touched on potential venues in Indonesia for hosting the next event.
Speaking about international conflicts, especially the ongoing tensions involving Israel and Iran, Haiyun Ma stressed the importance of unity and defense for Muslim nations.
“The conflict involving Israel and Iran is a serious concern for all Muslim countries. We need to think about how to protect ourselves because international institutions like the United Nations are no longer functioning effectively. Many have failed to take action because of pressure from Israel and the United States,” said Haiyun Ma.
Haiyun Ma urged Muslim leaders to focus on strengthening their national security.
“Leaders should start thinking about comprehensive security strategies. We need to consider advancing technologies, especially nuclear technology, not for war, but as a form of protection and deterrence,” emphasized Haiyun Ma.
