MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BANJARNEGARA — Muhammadiyah volunteers in Banjarnegara Regency undertook emergency responses to help landslide-affected residents in Bantar and Suwidak Villages, Wanayasa District.
The landslide occurred on 16 October 2022 and 24 October 2022. The subsequent landslide happened due to moderate to high rainfall for 3 days so that vulnerable soil could not last and eventually increased the possibility of landslide.
The incident further exacerbated the impact of the previous landslide. As of Saturday (5/11) 34 residents of Bantar Village and 59 residents of Suwidak Village were evacuating. A total of four 4 houses in Bantar Village and two houses in Suwidak Village were heavily damaged.
The electricity in the two villages was also broken, but it has been repaired. Then, 8.21 hectares of agricultural land and barking plantations were affected by the landslide.
Approximately 300 meters of the road connecting Sikenong, Bantar Village to Ngalian, Semanik and Krobokan, Suwidak Village was badly damaged, and any vehicles could not pass by. As a result, the daily activities of residents were disrupted.
The Muhammadiyah volunteers carried out many emergency responses such as providing logistics in the emergency kitchens and evacuation shelters.
There were two public kitchens: one to serve volunteers and the other to serve landslide-affected residents. “Logistics were distributed for the emergency kitchen in the shelters, and were not shared from person to person. For pregnant women and toddlers, they got separated logistics,” said Nurul Aziz, a member of the Muhammadiyah Management Center (MDMC) of Banjarnegara, on Saturday (5/11).
“Besides, medical assistance was provided by visiting patients that the medical team was dropped to the shelter because it required a great driver to get there,” added Nurul Aziz.
Free medical treatment was also provided every day at the local hospital because the medical workers there could still possibly do it.
There was also an installation of clean water drainage pipes in the two areas of Bantar and Suwidak villages. “The length was approximately 700 meters for the new installation, and it was about four kilometers for the old pipes,” he added.
Furthermore, psychosocial assistance as also carried out for 26 students of SD Negeri Suwidak and 60 students of MI Ma’arif Suwidak. According to Nurul Aziz, there were still four landslide-affected elementary schools and kindergartens that have not been assessed and followed up.
