MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA—Social media users worldwide have recently been shocked by posts displaying the arid and hot desert of Saudi Arabia turned green after pouring heavy rains. Mountains in western Saudi Arabia turned into meadows.
Some people were glad to see the phenomenon, but some others linked it to a hadith narrated by Muslim, Ibnu Hibban, Ahmad, and the others, Rasulullah said, “The Last Hour will not come till the land of Arabia turns into meadows and rivers.” This, many Muslims concluded that the doomsday will come soon.
According to the Staff of the Muhammadiyah Council for Tarjih and Tajdid Amiruddin, the phenomenon in Saudi Arabia should be seen as a natural phenomenon which can occur because of God’s power. With His greatness, Allah is able to change dry arid land into moist fertile soil. In short, Allah has the power to go against the laws of nature and the determination of causality.
“If some people link it to the hadith about the doomsday, why don’t they first link it to the greatness of Allah?” questioned Amiruddin on Monday (16/01).
Amir also suggested looking at this phenomenon from a Burhani perspective. Scientifically, high rainfall can be the main cause of vegetation growth. Therefore, it is not necessary to quickly draw conclusion the natural phenomenon as a sign of the end of the day because sooner or later, it will definitely come.
Besides, the member of the Muhammadiyah Council for Tarjih and Tajdid Muchammad Ichsan said that humans would not be able to predict the arrival of the Last Hour using scientific methods. What’s important to do right now is to focus on doing good deeds, and not to guess when the doomsday will happens.
“Humans can do calculations. However, the doomsday will is God’s prerogative. Laa ta’tiikum illa baghtah. The doomsday will come suddenly. We may predict that, but it will turn out beyond our prediction,” said Ichsan in the Tarjih Preaching on Wednesday (22/06/22),.
