MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SPAIN – The Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) of Spain officially commenced its new chapter under the leadership of Yordan Gunawan in a ceremony held at the Muhammadiyah Study Center Madrid on Sunday, December 17, 2023. The event drew prominent figures, including Indonesian Ambassador to Spain Muhammad Najib, highlighting the organization’s growing global influence and commitment to promoting peace and inclusivity.
Ambassador lauded the inauguration, emphasizing the pivotal role Muhammadiyah, through PCIM of Spain, can play in shaping a more peaceful and inclusive global landscape. He acknowledged the evolving geopolitical dynamics, transitioning from a bipolar world dominated by the US and Russia to a current unipolar system under American leadership. However, he cautioned against overlooking the rise of new players like China, potentially reshaping the global power equation.
“Drawing upon Muhammadiyah’s extensive national experience, particularly the invaluable contributions of its educational institutions, Indonesian youths can capitalize on this transformative moment,” remarked Ambassador. He further praised Muhammadiyah’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity, deeming it a critical example and source of inspiration for the international community grappling with complex societal challenges.
While emphasizing the significance of Muhammadiyah’s international engagements, the Ambassador underscored the organization’s unwavering dedication to its domestic mission. He advocated for the global dissemination of Muhammadiyah’s best practices, maximizing its positive impact on the world stage.
The Ambassador, drawing upon his experience as a former member of the Muhammadiyah Youth Movement, encouraged young members to actively prepare for their roles on the international stage. Newly appointed PCIM Spain Chairman Yordan Gunawan expressed his profound gratitude to the Central Board of Muhammadiyah and the Indonesian Embassy in Spain for their unwavering support.
