MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SANGGAU – The Muhammadiyah Youth Association of West Kalimantan celebrated the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia by unfurling a giant 179-meter Indonesian flag at the Indonesia-Malaysia border.
The flag-raising ceremony, held at the Entikong Cross-Border Post in Sanggau Regency, was attended by the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, John Wempi Wetipo, who became the chief inspector. Wetipo expressed his admiration for the initiative, highlighting its role in fostering nationalism among the Indonesian youth, especially those living in border regions.
“This is a very positive step taken by the Muhammadiyah Youth Association. On behalf of the Minister of Home Affairs, we commend the Muhammadiyah Youth Association. I hope that other youth will be inspired to contribute to the development of our border regions, working in synergy with the government,” said John Wempi Wetipo.
Wetipo emphasized the importance of strengthening the use of the Indonesian rupiah and reducing reliance on foreign currencies in border transactions. This would help bolster the national economic sovereignty and promote a sense of nationalism.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Youth Association of West Kalimantan, Ajie Kurniawan mentioned that the ceremony was a means of the association to enhance nationalism at the Indonesia-Malaysia border.
“We, the Muhammadiyah Youth Association of West Kalimantan, are proud to contribute to ensuring that the spirit of the 79th Independence Day of Indonesia is present among the people of the border, especially here in Entikong District, Sanggau Regency,” said Kurniawan.
The celebration may lift not only the people’s nationalism but also their economic welfare and human resource quality.
