Muhammadiyah Mandates Establishment of Child- and Women-Friendly Spaces across All Institutions

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah issues a circular mandating the establishment of child-friendly and women-friendly spaces in all its institutions. It is one of the Muhammadiyah actions to foster safer and more inclusive environments for children and women. This initiative aims to provide children and women with secure and accessible spaces where they can feel safe and valued.

A member of the Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Department of Education Lesti Kaslati Siregar highlighted the importance of these spaces.

“The provision of  child-friendly and women-friendly spaces is crucial. With these facilities, we can create a safe and comfortable working environment for mothers, allowing them to balance their work and caregiving responsibilities,” said Lesti.

She further noted that many women are forced to quit their jobs due to childcare responsibilities. “By providing child-friendly and women-friendly spaces, we hope to empower mothers to continue their careers while also ensuring the well-being of their children,” she said.

Lesti emphasized the positive impact of these spaces on children’s health and happiness. “These spaces can help prevent issues such as stunting and malnutrition,” she added.

Nasyiatul Asiyiyah has partnered with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection and twelve other government ministries and agencies to optimize the implementation of child-friendly and women-friendly spaces.

President of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Ariati Dina expressed her pride of Muhammadiyah commitment to this initiative.

“Nasyiatul Aisyiyah PPNA is proud of Muhammadiyah full support, especially with the circular emphasizing the importance of child-friendly and women-friendly spaces in all Muhammadiyah institutions. This initiative aligns with our commitment to creating safe and supportive environments for women and children,” said Ariati Dina

Ariati Dina believed that these spaces would serve as platforms for personal development, education, and psychosocial support. “Nasyiatul Aisyiyah is ready to collaborate with all stakeholders to provide these spaces and ensure that every woman and child feels valued, protected, and has access to various services,” said Ariati Dina.
