MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, AUSTRALIA — A proud international achievement was once again recorded by a student from Muhammadiyah 1 Senior High School Yogyakarta (MUHI Yogyakarta).
Ramadhan Harits Kuswara, a 10th-grade student, won a bronze medal at the Australian Open Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2025 in Melbourne, Australia. The competition was held on October 9-12, 2025, organized by the Australian Ice Racing Association (AIRA) under the supervision of the Australian Olympic Committee.
AIRA is the official institution responsible for governing, regulating, and developing ice racing sports in Australia. It oversees competitions, athlete training, racing regulations, and represents Australia in international events such as the Winter Olympics and World Championships. Ramadhan won the Bronze Medal in the 333m, Junior C category at the championship.
Short track speed skating is a branch of speed skating that takes place on an oval ice track of 111,12 meters. Several skaters compete simultaneously, often employing strategic maneuvers and engaging in tight competition. Because of the short and full turns track, tactical elements such as positioning, timing passes, and maintaining speed are crucial.
The event is listed in the International Skating Union (ISU) calendar as the Australian Open Short Track National Champs, which gives the competition international recognition and allows it to contribute to athlete rankings and selection.
This competition is part of a broader platform that highlights both artistic and non academic sports talents. Ramadhan has shown outstanding talent from a young age, nurtured through various competitions. He expressed his gratitude and pride for winning an international medal and bringing honor to his school.
“Alhamdulillah, I was given the opportunity to take part in this event. I’m very happy that my efforts have paid off. My toughest opponents were from Hong Kong and New Zealand. I hope my friends will also excel according to their interests and talents,” said Ramadhan proudly.
Ramadhan performed confidently before the judges, securing a significant non-academic achievement for himself and his school.
Meanwhile, Herynugroho, Principal of MUHI Yogyakarta, expressed his pride over this international accomplishment. He stated that achievements at the international level prove that students can compete globally in both skills and characters.
“International achievements bring pride not only to individuals but also to the school, the region, and even the nation. This helps enhance the school’s reputation at the national and international levels. Through international events, students can interact with peers from around the world, broaden their perspectives, cultivate tolerance, and build valuable global networks,” he explained.
The school consistently supports and facilitates students who wish to participate in competitions. Regardless of the outcome, the most important thing is to give their best.
