MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Speaking at the verification agenda of Emergency Medical Team of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (EMT MDMC) by the World Health Organization (WHO), Sean Casey, Project Area Manager for the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, emphasized that the verification process is not merely a procedural milestone. Instead, it is a reflection of a shared commitment to quality, accountability, collaboration, and regional as well as global solidarity in emergency response.
“The global classification of EMT MDMC requires that experience be translated into systems, documentation, standardization, and consistency. This ensures that receiving countries know exactly what kind of emergency medical support they are getting. We also recognize that EMT MDMC has worked hard for years, especially in recent months. Predictable quality is at the heart of this verification process,” he explained during the opening session on Saturday (18/10).
The two-day verification process serves as a bridge between MDMC’s extensive experience and international recognition. According to Sean, this is a tangible expression of the Global Health Emergency Core spirit, a collaborative system that strengthens global emergency preparedness and response.
“If EMT MDMC passes the verification, Indonesia will officially join the ranks of countries with globally classified EMTs. This confirms the nation’s capacity to respond to humanitarian crises, both nationally and internationally,” he stated.
Sean added that Muhammadiyah’s achievement would stand as evidence of Indonesia’s maturity, trustworthiness, and readiness at the global level. It would strengthen the country’s ability to respond more effectively of disasters and offer support to neighboring countries in times of need.
Sean expressed deep appreciation to EMT MDMC, the Indonesian government, and all partners involved in the long road toward verification. He stressed that verification is not the end point, but rather the beginning of continuous improvement and development.
“Verification should serve as a catalyst for growth and quality enhancement. We are committed to walking this path with you, engaging in this process with honesty and integrity,” he concluded.
