A Legacy of Sincerity Fuels Muhammadiyah Global Expansion

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALANG – As Muhammadiyah embarks on its second century, a core principle continues to drive its remarkable success: unwavering sincerity. This dedication to service, instilled by the movement’s founder Ahmad Dahlan, is evident in the thriving network of tens of thousands of Muhammadiyah institutions across Indonesia and beyond.

Dahlan’s famous saying, “hidupilah Muhammadiyah jangan mencari hidup di sana” (live for Muhammadiyah, don’t seek a living from it), perfectly captures the essence of this selfless commitment. This philosophy is reflected in the fact that none of the Muhammadiyah institutions bear his name as the owner; they all stand as testaments to the collective spirit of Muhammadiyah.

“Without the foundation of sincerity laid by our founding fathers. Muhammadiyah’s vast assets wouldn’t be registered solely under the organization’s name,” explained Muhammad Sayuti, Secretary of Muhammadiyah at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang on March 25,

This unwavering commitment to service has propelled Muhammadiyah to a global stage. The organization boasts a robust presence not only across Indonesia but also internationally through its network of Muhammadiyah Special Branches (PCIM) and Muhammadiyah institutions.

Muhammadiyah Global Impact on Education

Muhammadiyah recently etched its name in history with the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), the first Indonesian university to set roots outside the country. They’ve also achieved another first by establishing the Muhammadiyah Australia College (MAC), the first non-governmental school founded overseas by an Indonesian organization.

Unlike most Indonesian schools abroad that retain the national curriculum, MAC offers a program tailored to Australian standards. This unique approach fosters a diverse learning environment, attracting students and teachers from across the globe, including Egypt and Afghanistan.

MAC’s international character exemplifies Muhammadiyah’s commitment to global education and its mission to illuminate minds worldwide. As the organization embarks on its second century, its unwavering dedication to service and its ever-expanding global footprint position it to leave an even greater positive impact on the world.
