MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah offers condolences to all people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, rendering the loss of lives and injuries.
“As a great nation, Turkey will remain patient and strong,” said General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Abdul Muti on Tuesday (7/2) in Jakarta.
As spiritual support, Muhammadiyah appealed to Muslims, particularly Muhammadiyah members, to perform prayer for the victims of powerful earthquakes that killed thousands in Turkey and Syria.
Besides, Mu’ti mentioned that the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) is ready to deploy an emergency medical team to Turkey.
“Lazismu (the Muhammadiyah zakat management body) also fundraises for helping the earthquake-affected people,” said Mu’ti.
The EMT Muhammadiyah stands ready to deploy 29 people and is now coordinating with the National Disaster Management Agency (BPNB), the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, the Center for Health Crisis of the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
The EMT consists of 5 emergency doctors, 2 orthopedic surgeons, 7 nurses, 2 pharmacists, 1 midwife, 1 psychologist, 1 safety & security officer, 7 logistical support staff (WASH setup and others), 1 medical admin, 1 photographer, and 1 liaison officer.
