MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – The Association of Communication Education of Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions (APIK PTMA) conducted the 6th Jogjakarta Communication Conference, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 30, 2025. This year’s conference focused on “Advancing Regional Resilience: Digital Transformation Impact on Society in Southeast Asia.”
The hybrid conference gathered 150 presentes from various countries, joining both in person and online, to explore how digital technology is reshaping Southeast Asian societies.
“In Southeast Asia, technologies like AI, IoT, and e-commerce are boosting economic growth, improving regional resilience, and helping tackle issues such as climate change and social inequality. However, we still face challenges like data privacy, cybersecurity, and the digital gap,” said Chairul Fajri, Chair of the APIK PTMA.
Fajri stressed the need to understand the impact of digital transformation on communities, with a focus on building resilience, promoting inclusive growth, and strengthening digital literacy and online safety.
Keynote speakers included Prof. Sohirin Mohammad Solihin from Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), Pavel Slutsky, Ph.D. from Chulalongkorn University, Prof. Dr. Dorien Kartikawangi from Universitas Katolik Atma Jaya and the founder of the ICA Chapter Indonesia, and Prof. Ju Zou, Ph.D. from Nanjing Normal University.
The conference was supported by UMAM, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD), the International Communication Association (ICA) Chapter Indonesia, and the Islamic Higher Education Communication Association (Asikopti).
“By bringing together government, business, civil society, and academics, this conference offers insights on how digital technology can help build stronger communities. It provides practical recommendations for decision-makers and encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing,” said Fajri.
