MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, IRAN – The Muhammadiyah Council for Law and Human Rights took part in the Eastern Conference on Human Rights, held in Tehran and Qom from April 28 to 30. The international forum brought together delegates from 30 countries to discuss human rights protection in the Middle East.
Representing Muhammadiyah, Satria Unggul Wicaksana highlighted the organization’s unique approach to human rights advocacy.
“Muhammadiyah efforts are based on both universal human rights principles and the values of Islam that are moderate, inclusive, and rahmatan lil ‘alamin (mercy to the whole world),” said Satria.
Satria, who also serves as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya, received positive responses from other participants.
“This international forum recommended the use of civil society-based advocacy models like Muhammadiyah’s model as an example for strengthening human rights movements in the East,” he added.
Muhammadiyah participation was seen as a valuable example of how religious values, civil society, and human rights can work together. The organization’s involvement reflected its commitment to contributing to global efforts in promoting and protecting human rights through academic and social engagement.
