MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAYAPURA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir visited Universitas Muhammadiyah (UM) Papua on Friday (17/2) after inaugurating Perguruan Muhammadiyah Mimika.
Haedar was glad that Muhammadiyah could establish an educational institution in Jayapura, Papua, and he had high expectations.
“We hope that the education institution becomes a strategic institution to educate people in Papua. Papua belongs to us, including Muhammadiyah,” said Haedar.
Haedar considered Papua part of Muhammadiyah since all Muhammadiyah actions and programs in education, health, social, and economy are addressed to all Indonesians regardless of their background.
“Muhammadiyah is an Islamic movement for all. Muhammadiyah is a medium to develop this nation and the people everywhere they are. Let’s go hand in hand to foster Papua. Muhammadiyah will always be there for Papua,” said Haedar.
Haedar wished that UM Papua leaders work together to evolve the university and enhance the quality of education. Indeed, UM Papua is expected to collaborate with the Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Papua, the government, religious institutions, social organizations, and traditional leaders.
“Togetherness enables us to develop,” said Haedar.
Besides, UM Papua students are expected to sincerely and patiently learn and gain achievements.
“For UM Papua students, keep learning, keep your spirit and your integrity. The key of success lies on inner dynamics that the one who decides our future is us and God, not other people. Who strives will succeed. Patience and team work lead to success. We have to help one another to get the success,” said Haedar.
