MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MANADO – Established to foster a prominent civilization rooted in Islamic values for broader societal advancement, Muhammadiyah has been at the forefront of this mission for 111 years.
Founded by Ahmad Dahlan, Muhammadiyah initiated a civilization movement through education, health, and social services. Today, Muhammadiyah, in 111 years of its establishment, has expanded its presence to 35 provinces in Indonesia and 30 countries. Its institutions include 172 higher education institutions, 122 hospitals (with 20 more under construction), 231 clinics, 5,345 schools, 440 Islamic boarding schools, 1,012 social institutions (orphanages, etc.), 20,465 waqf assets, and over 214 million square meters of land.
Notably, Muhammadiyah stands as the sole social organization to successfully establish educational institutions beyond Indonesia’s borders, including a preschool in Cairo, a primary school in Melbourne, and a university in Malaysia.
Speaking at the 111th Muhammadiyah Anniversary Celebration North Sulawesi, held at the Mapalus Hall of the Governor’s Office in Manado on Saturday (December 9), President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized that Muhammadiyah’s commitment goes beyond the organization itself. It aims to contribute to the nation and the global community.
“Muhammadiyah is actively addressing the competitiveness gap of Indonesian human resources within ASEAN, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to tackle challenges in education and issues in health like stunting,” said Haedar.
Despite remarkable physical developments, Indonesia’s future prosperity hinges on the advancement of its human resources. Haedar stressed the importance of collaborative and progressive efforts involving the government and all elements of society to build the nation with sincerity, high moral responsibility, and dedicated service.
