MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SORONG – Universitas Pendidikan Muhammadiyah (Unimuda) Sorong recently hosted the 41st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indonesian Hydraulic Engineer Association (HATHI) on “Innovation in Water Resource Management for Shared Prosperity.”
The meeting highlighted the region’s commitment to sustainable water management and the critical role of water in supporting human life and economic development.
The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy mentioned the dual nature of water as both a vital resource and a potential threat.
“Water is essential for human life, but it can also cause devastating hydrometeorological disasters. We need to adopt a wise and intelligent approach to water management to mitigate risks and maximize benefits,” said Muhadjir in his remark in the meeting opening on Sunday, September 29 at the Auditorium of Unimuda.
“We should manage water resources intelligently to minimize the risk of disasters and maximize their potential as a source of livelihood,” he added.
The Minister highlighted the importance of technology in mitigating natural disasters, specifically mentioning cloud seeding as a potential solution to reduce the intensity of rainfall and prevent floods.
“Technology, especially in the field of water resources, is crucial for our daily lives. We should continuously develop and implement new technologies to ensure sustainable water management,” added Muhadjir.
By hosting this prestigious event, Unimuda Sorong has positioned itself as a leading institution in the field of water resource management. The meeting provided a platform for researchers, academics, and practitioners to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and explore innovative solutions to address the complex challenges facing Indonesia’s water resources.
The outcomes of the 41st HATHI Annual Scientific Meeting are expected to contribute to the development of more effective water management policies and practices in Indonesia.
