MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, RIYADH – President of Muhammadiyah Central Board (PP Muhammadiyah) Haedar Nashir met with Eng. Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, Assistant General Supervisor for Operations and Programs of King Salman Relief, to discuss strengthening the role of the Islamic world in global humanitarian assistance.
The meeting, held on Monday (1/12) at the King Salman Relief headquarters in Riyadh, was also attended by Muhammadiyah General Treasurer Hilman Latief, Secretary Muhammad Sayuti, as well as the chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development.
According to Sayuti, the discussion was warm and substantive, given the extensive humanitarian contributions of both institutions. King Salman Relief presented various forms of support it has provided to communities affected by conflict and disasters across numerous countries. Muhammadiyah, in turn, shared its humanitarian experience in Türkiye, Palestine, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the Philippines. It was also conveyed that Muhammadiyah’s Emergency Medical Team (EMT) has been verified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the only EMT from Indonesia to receive such recognition.
Sayuti explained that Haedar Nashir emphasized Muhammadiyah’s long tradition of volunteerism and humanitarian response, which began in 1917 during the eruption of Mount Kelud. Since then, Muhammadiyah has consistently mobilized volunteers and coordinated aid for disaster-affected communities.
The meeting will be followed up with steps toward formal cooperation in humanitarian efforts, including emergency response, post-disaster recovery, and health programs for impoverished communities in various countries.
Strengthening collaboration between King Salman Relief and Muhammadiyah is considered highly strategic, as both institutions play significant and influential roles in global humanitarian work within the Islamic world. (Bintang Adrian)
