MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir expressed his gratitude for Sudan’s support of the Unified Global Hijri Calendar (UGHC). The support was shown through the attendance of Sudan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, H.E. Dr. Yassir Mohamed Ali Mohamed, at the UGHC launching held at Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta on Wednesday, June 25.
Ambassador Yassir praised Muhammadiyah’s initiative, calling it a smart and forward-looking effort to unify the Islamic world through one calendar. He noted that the UGHC could become a starting point for broader unity among Muslims in other important areas.
Haedar also highlighted Muhammadiyah’s strong reputation in education, saying Sudan hopes to learn from Muhammadiyah success to improve its own education system. As a Muslim-majority country, Sudan, he said, has the same potential to grow in education if it can adopt a model that fits its own context.
In response, Haedar Nashir thanked the ambassador for his support and for attending the UGHC launch. He emphasized that the calendar is more than a timekeeping tool. It is a symbol of unity for the global Muslim community and could open the door to further collaboration in areas such as education and development.
Haedar welcomed the ambassador’s interest in cooperation, saying, “We’re honored by your recognition. Muhammadiyah is always open to partnerships that help improve lives and uphold humanitarian values.”
Haedar also shared his thoughts on Sudan’s current political progress. He hoped that the situation in Sudan would continue to improve for the good of its people.
“May peace and stability be maintained to support the well-being of the Sudanese people,” he said.
Haedar also stressed that in today’s modern world, peace should be achieved through dialogue and understanding, not through violence, which brings unnecessary harm to all sides.
