MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALANG – Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, Muhammad Sayuti, reminded members of the importance of cherishing their place within the organization.
“Being part of Muhammadiyah is a sign of Allah’s love. We should be grateful to be in this organization with over a century of service,” said Sayuti in the preaching at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Monday (March 25),
He went on to explain that belonging to Muhammadiyah is a source of constant motivation. “Even at 115 years in the Hijri calendar,” Sayuti noted, “Muhammadiyah shows no signs of slowing down in its mission to advance society.”
One reason for such gratitude, Sayuti pointed out, is Muhammadiyah’s undeniable success in education. This achievement isn’t based on self-promotion, but rather on recognition from scholars like Robert W. Hefner, a professor of anthropology.
Sayuti also delved into the inspiration behind the organization’s founding by Ahmad Dahlan. While Dahlan found inspiration in figures like Rashid Rida and Jamaluddin Al Afghani, Sayuti emphasized that Muhammadiyah developed a unique approach, distinct from its sources of inspiration.
“Jamaluddin Al Afghani and Rashid Rida didn’t establish universities, hospitals, or schools,” Sayuti said. “Muhammadiyah, however, has built a vast network of educational and social institutions.”
Gratitude for being part of Muhammadiyah can be expressed in several ways. Sayuti highlighted ensuring the organization and its institutions, known as Amal Usaha Muhammadiyah (AUM), continue to progress.
He stressed that even as a large organization, both Muhammadiyah and its AUM institutions must remain efficient, effective, and adaptable. This, Sayuti argued, necessitates new strategies, a shift in culture, and innovative approaches to propel the organization forward.
