MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, ABU DHABI – A delegation from Muhammadiyah visited the esteemed Al Qasimia University in Sharjah on Tuesday, February 6. Led by President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir, the entouage, which included rectors from several Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah higher education institutions, sought to glean insights from the modern campus renowed for its interantional focus.
Established in 2014 by Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Al Qasimia University stands out as one of four sprawling university complexes in the Emirate. Notably, it attracts international students, including those from Indonesia, through its generous scholarship program.
Haedar, impressed by Sharjah’s dedication to education, remarked, “This Emirate embodies the perfect blend of modernity in its economic, business, and tourism sectors, while simultaneously fostering a progressive Islamic approach to education, making it a true icon of the United Arab Emirates.”
He further highlighted the growing influence of the United Arab Emirates as a center for Islamic advancements in the region, attributing it to the vast educational infrastructure that underpins its progress.
Recognizing the need for Indonesia to learn from this progress, Haedar emphasized, “While democracy is crucial, Indonesia should also strive to become a leader in education. With its modern Islamic perspective, Muhammadiyah is well-positioned to contribute to this goal. We should learn from Sharjah’s success by building robust educational infrastructure across various disciplines.”
This visit underscores Muhammadiyah commitment to international collaboration and its pursuit of best practices in education, aiming to propel its own institutions towards excellence. As Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates continue to foster closer ties, such exchanges hold the potential to shape the future of Islamic education and intellectual exchange in the region and beyond.
