MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – The esports team of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), Little Pikaa, won the fourth place at Infinix Campus Cup (ICC) 2025, an international Mobile Legends tournament held at the Mall of Asia in Manila, the Philippines.
The ICC is a regional esports competition for Southeast Asian university students, hosted by Infinix. Representing UMS were three students, namely Rafa Atanaska and Dimas Satria Mulyono from the Faculty of Communication and Informatics (FKI), and Muhammad Dhiya Ul-Haq from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).
Team captain Rafa Atanaska shared that their biggest challenge during the tournament was unstable internet at the venue.
“We experienced some serious jump ping, which disrupted our performance during matches,” said Rafa on Tuesday, July 29.
Although they did not take home the championship title, Little Pikaa earned a top-four finish. Rafa said the experience gave them valuable insight and motivation to aim for the top spot next time, either as campus representatives or Indonesian delegates.
They qualified for the ICC after advancing through the national XCC tournament in Yogyakarta, held from May 26 to June 15, 2025. Their success in that event earned them the opportunity to represent Indonesia at the ICC in Manila from July 2 to 7.
Interestingly, the team competed without a coach. Still, they received full support from their department head and the Vice Dean III of FKI, who helped organize their trip to the Philippines.
To prepare for the tournament, the team trained daily and relied on trust-based coordination between members, a strategy that proved effective under pressure. Rafa also said the team’s mental strength was built through previous competitions.
Seeing the potential of esports on campus, Rafa hoped UMS would establish an official esports student club to help students grow their skills and compete professionally.
“With an esports student club, students could develop their talent even more and bring greater recognition to our university,” said Rafa.
The team’s achievement at the ICC shows that UMS students are capable of competing internationally, not only in academics but also in creative and digital industries like esports, which continue to grow around the world.
