MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, GRESIK – Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni Muhammadiyah has received widespread appreciation for its contributions, but this should not lead to complacency.
Syafiq emphasized that public recognition is not the organization’s ultimate goal. Muhammadiyah mission is to seek the blessings of Allah while advancing society, the nation, and even universal humanity.
“We are aware that we still have many shortcomings and should continue working hard. However, others recognize our efforts and place great expectations on Muhammadiyah,” said Syafiq at the inauguration of the new rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) for the 2025-2029 term on Wednesday, March 26.
Muhammadiyah contributions have not only been acknowledged in Indonesia but also by international scholars. One of them, Robert W. Hefner, praised the organization for developing one of the world’s most advanced modern Islamic education systems.
“Hopefully, this recognition will not make us arrogant but instead serve as a challenge. Some even call Muhammadiyah the wealthiest Islamic organization in the world. Recently, a report went viral stating that Muhammadiyah ranks as the fourth wealthiest religious organization globally,” added Syafiq.
Muhammadiyah has also been recognized for its strong administrative management, as acknowledged by a government official. The recognition, Syafiq noted, presents both an opportunity and a responsibility to build an even more structured and progressive system.
Founded in 1912, Muhammadiyah has become an influential organization, attracting attention not just nationally but also internationally. Many foreign institutions and individuals see Muhammadiyah as a capable organization and often seek its assistance.
Over the years, Muhammadiyah has provided significant humanitarian aid worldwide, including building wells in Africa, establishing schools in several countries, and continuously offering relief efforts. In some cases, institutions in other nations, such as in Cambodia, have even entrusted Muhammadiyah with managing their educational facilities.
