MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has unveiled its 2024 Scholarship Program aimed at supporting members in their pursuit of higher education. Chairperson Agung Danarto announced this initiative on Monday, July 29, 2024, highlighting the organization’s commitment to fostering educational advancement among its members.
The scholarship program is a collaborative effort between the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management (Lazismu) and the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources. Agung emphasized that this initiative reflects Muhammadiyah’s dedication to its community.
A total of Rp 3.5 billion has been allocated to benefit 400 recipients. Scholarships are categorized for active members of Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations at the regional level and for underprivileged members. Undergraduate students will receive Rp 4 million each, while postgraduate students will be awarded Rp 5 million.
Agung expressed hope that these scholarships will encourage members to pursue further studies, enhancing their ability to contribute to Muhammadiyah’s development.
“For instance, to become a lecturer at a Muhammadiyah or ‘Aisyiyah university, a master’s degree is usually required. Unfortunately, many of our members who have been active in Muhammadiyah from a young age do not meet this criterion because they have not held the master’s degree yet,” he explained.
The application period for the 2024 scholarship program is from July 29 to August 5, 2024. The selection process will consider candidates’ involvement in Muhammadiyah, their academic performance, and financial need.
Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Cadre and Human Resources, Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, highlighted the scholarships’ role in easing financial burdens for those seeking higher education.
“The donations and alms entrusted to Lazismu are distributed to those in need, including students,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Imam Mujadid Rais, Chairperson of Lazismu, expressed gratitude for the positive response to the program, acknowledging the high demand among Muhammadiyah members. “We hope that this scholarship program can fulfill the aspirations and provide opportunities that are often difficult for our members to obtain,” he said.
This scholarship program demonstrates Muhammadiyah commitment to human resource development. By investing in the education of its members, Muhammadiyah aims to cultivate a more competent and capable leadership for the future.
