MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah not only voices its support for Palestine’s battle against Israeli oppression but also provides moral assistance for Palestine to be free.
While verbal support is crucial, tangible contributions are equally vital to boost Palestinian independence, well-being, and dignity. Muhammadiyah support for Palestinians reflects its commitment to their well-being, a long-standing tradition of humanitarian aid.
“Providing aid is part of Muhammadiyah tradition, and we have been doing it since several years ago,” said Chairman of Muhammadiyah Syafiq Mughni at a press conference of ‘the Handover of Aid from the Indonesian People for Palestine’ at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping on November 1.
Muhammadiyah has provided various aids for Palestine, such as health services, social services, and access to education.
“Muhammadiyah given humanitarian aid for Palestinians,” said Syafiq.
Peace Building and Community Development Programs
Syafiq mentioned that the second term of Muhammadiyah aid distribution would focus on two primary programs: peacebuilding and community development.
The peace-building program is addressed to Palestinian youth and concentrates on disaster resilience. Meanwhile, the community development program aims to train four hundred Palestinian women to stimulate economic growth with Muhammadiyah’s financial support.
“Due to the current circumstances, we have postponed implementation until the programs are possible to conduct. Nevertheless, Muhammadiyah keeps raising funds for Palestine,” said Syafiq.
Muhammadiyah is coordinating with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Red Cross to send volunteers to Palestine. Muhammadiyah volunteers will assess the situation before providing assistance.
“We plan to deploy a team to carry out the situation assessment, understand the conditions there, and sent volunteers to assist the people of Gaza,” said Mughni.
Furthermore, Syafiq Mughni expressed gratitude for support from all parties, noting that this aid goes beyond prayers and includes substantial financial contributions that are crucial for the Palestinian people during the oppressive Israeli occupation.
