MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, EGYPT – A vital shipment of humanitarian aid from Indonesia has reached Palestine, marking a successful collaboration between Muhammadiyah and the Indonesia Humanitarian Alliance (IHA). The critical supplies, dispatched from Badr City, Cairo, on November 27, 2023, arrived at the Rafah border on December 17, 2023, offering much-needed support to Palestinians amidst ongoing humanitarian challenges.
The delivery, meticulously coordinated by IHA, a collective of Indonesian humanitarian organizations, was warmly received by the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). The ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine has prompted a multitude of actors to extend assistance, and Muhammadiyah, through its Institute for Zakat, Infaq, and Alms Management (Lazismu), played a pivotal role in mobilizing funds and resources.
The consignment, transported under the watchful eyes of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch Leadership (PCIM) in Egypt and the Lazismu Office of the PCIM of Egypt, comprised crucial staples like rice, flour, and beverages, alongside vital medical supplies and winter clothing. This coordinated effort involved IHA and Ghiras, a trusted local partner, committed to alleviating the hardships faced by Palestinians.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Indonesian people, Muhammad, representing Ghiras, emphasized the transformative impact of the aid.
“We are deeply grateful to all Indonesian citizens who entrusted us with their support. We fervently hope these provisions ease the suffering of our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” said Ghiras.
Chairman of the PCIM of Egypt Hidanul Achwan and Head of the Lazismu of the PCIM Khairul Hakim closely monitored the aid’s journey from Egypt to the Rafah border. Hakim mentioned the diverse nature of the assistance, highlighting the inclusion of 16 tons of essential supplies per truck.
“We acknowledge with profound gratitude Lazismu’s trust in entrusting us with this impactful mission. “Witnessing this process firsthand has been an invaluable learning experience,” said Hakim.
The distribution of this crucial aid falls under the umbrella of IHA, a dedicated platform facilitating aid to Palestinians by harnessing the collective strength of Indonesian humanitarian organizations. IHA remains steadfast in its commitment to bolstering the resilience and morale of the Palestinian people.
Through its Muhammadiyah Aid program, Lazismu actively participated in this critical initiative, contributing two vital trucks laden with supplies to the 11-truck convoy. This combined effort demonstrates the collective resolve of Indonesian citizens and organizations in extending a helping hand to Palestinians in their time of need.
