MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – In a meeting on December 21, leading representatives of Muhammadiyah and the Iranian government explored potential avenues for collaborative efforts in fields of mutual interest. The dialogue, held at the Muhammadiyah headquarters in Jakarta, saw Haedar Nashir (President of Muhammadiyah), Abdul Mu’ti (General Secretary of Muhammadiyah ), and Syafiq Mughni (Chairman of Muhammadiyah) welcoming His Excellency Mohammad Boroujerdi, the Ambassador of Iran to Indonesia.
Ambassador Boroujerdi, a longstanding admirer of Muhammadiyah’s inclusive character, expressed a deep connection to the movement, characterizing it as his “second home” after 22 years of engagement. The discussion delved into various areas of shared concern, including Muhammadiyah’s established presence in Iran through the Muhammadiyah Special Branch of Muhammadiyah (PCIM). This active branch serves as a crucial bridge between the Iranian government and Muhammadiyah, facilitating joint initiatives and fostering cultural exchange.
Syafiq Mughni, expanding the meeting’s key themes, highlighted the focus on the current challenges facing the Islamic world, with particular emphasis on the Palestinian struggle. A strong convergence of views emerged on this critical issue, emphasizing both Iran and Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestinian aspirations.
Additionally, Ambassador Boroujerdi expressed profound appreciation for Muhammadiyah’s exemplary contributions to education and healthcare, underscoring the potential for future cooperation in these vital sectors.
Moving forward, both parties expressed keen interest in exploring collaborative avenues encompassing social development, educational exchange, and technological advancements.
