MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TURKEY—The Emergency Medical Team (EMT), under the coordination of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), arrived in Turkey on Tuesday (14/02) after a 13-hour flight. They were welcomed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Turkey Lalu Muhammad Iqbal and leadership of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) Turkey at Adana International Airport.
As part of the Indonesian Emergency Medical Team (INA-EMT), the EMT Muhammadiyah personnel consists of medical staff, a logistic team, a management team, a media team, and a translator team. They collaborated to help the survivors of the Turkey earthquake, especially in physical and psychological health.
Based on a report from the administrative staff of Lazismu (the Muhammadiyah zakat management body) of the PCIM Turkey Tri Julia Wulandari, the ambassador gave directions to the EMT Muhammadiyah; afterwards, they departed to Hassa, Hatay, Turkey as an affected area to set up an emergency hospital.
Turkish citizens welcomed the arrival of the INA-EMT. Erdem Güven, a local volunteer at the Indonesian Embassy in Turkey, works as a tour guide for Indonesian people visiting Turkey. Here, he would be an interpreter to help the team coordinate and communicate with the locals.
“The Indonesian government will build a hospital in Southeastern Turkey. It is fruitful and vital for all of us, especially in this very difficult and severe condition. No matter how small the aid, it means a lot,” said Erdem Güven.
The EMT Muhammadiyah members comprise doctors, nurses, and the logistics team from PKU Muhammadiyah Lamongan, PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong, Jakarta Islamic Hospital Sukapura, Jakarta Islamic Hospital Pondok Kopi, PKU Muhammadiyah Metro, PKU Muhammadiyah Karanganyar, Aisyiyah Bojonegoro Hospital, members of the MDMC of Central Java, MDMC members of the MDMC of East Java, members of the MDMC of Yogyakarta, and members of the MDMC. Besides, members of the PCIM of Turkey and Lazimu of the PCIM of Turkey will assist in being interpreters.
