Muhammadiyah International Humanitarian Missions in Morocco and Libya

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah, through the Muhammadiyah special branches (PCIMs), councils, departments, and autonomous organizations, has contributed to international humanitarian efforts. The organization has been providing essential aid to disaster-affected people.

Recent humanitarian responses in Morocco and Libya have highlighted Muhammadiyah global impact. Following the devastating earthquakes in Morocco and floods in Libya in November 2023, PCIMs in both countries quickly mobilized to provide relief to affected communities.

Jundi Abdurrahman and Nafisa, representatives of PCIM of Morocco and Libya, respectively, shared their experiences during a visit to the Lazismu Office in Jakarta on Friday, October 11. They recounted how Lazismu, the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management, had received a positive response to their relief efforts.

Jundi recounted how Lazismu humanitarian assistance was met with gratitude and appreciation from the Moroccan people. Even in remote areas, local media covered Lazismu aid distribution efforts.

“Coincidentally, they were also planning to cover the post-disaster situation. When they knew that Lazismu was from Indonesia and part of Muhammadiyah, they were touched, and our humanitarian actions became part of their news,” said Jundi.

Similarly, Ahmad Najrullah Siregar from PCIM of Libya shared that Lazismu response to the floods caused by Storm Daniel in 2023 had a profound impact on the Libyan people.

PCIM of Libya, in collaboration with the Libyan Red Crescent, had launched a fundraising campaign to support flood survivors in Tripoli. The initiative received support from the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli.

Jundi, Ahmad, and Nafisa emphasized the valuable lessons learned from these experiences, particularly the positive impact of international humanitarian work on the global reputation of Indonesia. They expressed their gratitude for the support provided by Lazismu, which has enabled them to carry out their humanitarian missions abroad.

Meanwhile, Manager of Lazismu Partnership Program Upik Rahmawati highlighted the importance of these international efforts as an integral part of Muhammadiyah global outreach. Shofia Khoerunnisa, Manager of Lazismu Program, emphasized the strategic role of PCIM in facilitating humanitarian programs overseas.

Risya Umami, Manager of Lazismu Institutional and Territorial Affairs, acknowledged the significant contributions of PCIM and Lazismu to the global humanitarian movement. She expressed the need for continued collaboration and information sharing between the domestic and overseas branches of Lazismu.
